Welcome to Rich Kennels and Dan Rich Stables!!
|
We have a 30 acre farm in the country in beautiful Southwest Missouri. All of our animals are free range. Nobody ever leaves. We do not raise any animals for food here; we just care for them and enjoy them and we never hurt or kill anything. We have a charmed and peaceful spot on earth here and we love it.
These are pictures of our human and animal family. You will find pictures of horses, guineas, our black Australian Swan, our camel, sheep, goats, steer, pigs, geese, ducks, turkeys, chickens, donkeys, roosters, bunnies and peacocks on this page. Our farm is a lot of fun and a labor of love. There is always something to be done. |

We have all kinds of farm animals here....
GEESE
Here are the geese on parade. They fall into single file and have a parade three or four times a day every day.
Geese are wonderful parents. They keep the goslings in the center of the gaggle and protect them from harm. They will hurt you if you try to mess with their babies!
Grown Babies
Sebastapol Geese

Giant Dewlap Tolouse Goose.
We have a pair of these big beautiful geese.

Ducks
These are also good parents and the whole flock helps with the care and training of the babies.
Other Ducks

Four new baby ducks on July 10, 2006.
These are two orphaned little ducks that we are hand raising. The little baby one thinks the big baby one is his mother and sticks to him like glue! They are SO CUTE!
CHICKENS
"This is our first Spring hatch in 2005. This sweet little momma hen hatched 6 eggs. Note that 5 of them are ducks! She didn't care. She raised them all even though they drove her nuts going in the water!"

This little flock was hatched July 10, 2006. She has 13 babies! They are dry and fluffy but they are still egg-sized little cuties - brand new!

Here are the mom and the dad and all 13 kids!

Guineas
The guineas zoom all over the property eating bugs. They are dumber than a box of rock, though. These birds are horrible parents. Every year they hatch a dozen or so babies and we can't catch them to raise them and they lose them within a few days in the tall grass in the field! They just leave them there and forget they ever had them! But they sure do eat ticks and guard the lane. We never have a tick problem here.
Peacocks
Big, beautiful birds. Ours are free range, like everything here, and they decorate the whole place!
Hood Ornament!
SWAN
| This is our lovely black Australian swan, Othello. |
TURKEYS!
| This is Winston, our Royal Palm Tom turkey. He loves Dan and Jane and hates everybody else (unfortunately), darn it! |
|
Dan and Hamilton
|
| This turkey imprinted on us at hatching and loves to be held and petted. We thought she was a boy and named her Hamilton (in honor of Jane's father who always joked about getting the Thanksgiving turkey out in the oleanders) and it turns out she is a girl! She knows her name, so we have a girl turkey named Hamilton. She is very sweet and gentle and she is a clear favorite here. | |

Pot-Bellied Pigs!
This is our house pig, Priscilla, with her pretty pink halter and her pink toenails. Priscilla will sit, stay, back up, dance, stand on her hind feet, and she would whistle Dixie if she could, to get a piece of popcorn!

Bunny Rabbits
We have LOTS of bunnies on the place! Several domestic rabbits have bred with the cottontails, so we have grey, chocolate, white, black, gold, siamese, spotted, in all possible variations of colors! They are not afraid of people.
Barn Bunny
Barn Bunnies at their midnight snack. When Dan makes his last rounds, he gives them some corn chops.

|
The Squirrel
(Turns out this is the reason our bird feeder in front was opened every day.. so we bought him his own feeder.. works for him!)
A Hawk in Our Barn
He was looking for lunch this day. He got out safely, but he did not get any "take out" food. :)
Isn't he beautiful?

CAMEL

Chloe is our Dromedary Camel. She was born on 10/10/2000. Look how fast she grew! |

KIDS!
Here are some pictures of some of our beautiful grandchildren.
THE CABIN
We have a cabin on our place that is an authentic log cabin built with wood from our woods. In the springtime, there are baby groundhogs under the cabin and the momma fox brings her babies up to run and play on the fence! We can see the cabin from the back deck or the sunroom. Isn't it pretty? This is how our cabin looks every single day as the sun goes down. It looks like God lights it up for one last look.
The Sunsets here are breathtaking.
This is the view out the window of my office. Evening is my favorite time of day. The colors are deep and rich and the shadows are long and we frequently get this magnificent profusion of color and texture. And I look out the window and see this awesome display and think
"GO, God!!"
